Water damaged iPhone 5 screen

I dropped my phone in water. I soaked the phone in isopropanol for 7 minutes and rested the phone to dry for 24 hours.

The phone seems to work. however, the screen doesn't.

The phone responds to itunes and makes noises when receiving calls, charging etc

But, the screen is black. The touchscreen still works because itunes asked for my password and I managed to put it in by guessing where the number would be.

What is the problem and how can I fix it?

+ if a new display does not fix it, you will have a shorted backlight circuit. Check the components on the logic board for any corrosion, if they are burned or missing.
