Unresponsive keyboard and no display

This MacBook Pro 2011 will not turn on or off from the on / off button. So i've booted it from the power pads. The boot did not work until I disconnected the keyboard.

The start up chime is present but then there is no display on the screen.

There is also no sound from any of the keys on the keyboard after reconnecting the keyboard. I am unable to boot in target mode since the keyboard does not appear to work.

Since booting this machine from the power pads it now boots on whenever the power is turned on or battery is connected.

Has anyone experienced any of this before? And what should my next action be I would like to get this machine working. Thank you.

Connect a USB keyboard (any type doesn't have to be Apple) this will allow you to target boot.

Connect an external display - if it works your GPU is ok and the problem is internal display chain.

The top case has a short in it - most likely from a liquid spill, replace if the GPU is sound, and, you want to find the fault in the display chain.

The display problem, if internal, could be logic board damage, possibly a LED controller/fuse, maybe the LVDS display cable, or lastly the LED display itself.

One of the dangers of force booting via jumping the logic board is. . . damage to the board. I have no personal experience or knowledge why applying power results in a boot.
