Adding Memory Chips - Remove Old Ones?

I haven't taken apart the laptop yet. But when I do, I anticipate seeing existing memory chips inside. When I add the new memory chips, am I supposed to remove the old memory chips or just shove more on top of each other?

You take the old ones out (study the steps, notes and tools required). There are only two banks. *Originally, both the official and actual maximum RAM was 8 GB. However, as confirmed by site sponsor OWC, if running OS X 10.7.5 or higher, updated with the latest EFI, and equipped with proper specification memory modules, this model can support up to 16 GB of RAM.
