Fixed yellow light of death now shuts down on it own

I bought the kit to fix the YLOD. I followed the repair manual to the letter in fact I heated the chips 4 times letting it cool each time. It work like new for a couple of weeks now I got the YLOD again. Did I do something wrong? Or is there something more wrong?

Answer this question I have this problem too

suzuki111, first you do need to remember that this will only work if your YLOD is caused by solder fractures and if they are not to extreme. The YLOD is generated by cracked solder connections on the CPU/GPU. Reflowing any board with a heatgun is not an exact science and as such does have a certain amount of failure. The proper fix for this would most likely be a professional reball. Anyhow, the biggest reason for failure to reflow is not enough consistent heat. There is a fine line between reflowing and absolutely melting the solder, so one needs to be aggressive without going over board. If nothing else, get a couple of temperature probes and see what heat you generate. You also need to make sure that you apply the thermal paste properly etc. If at first you don't succeed....:). Hope this helps, good luck

Suzuki,

When you reflow a chip you are just temporarily fixing it. The best way to get new life from your board is a reball where you actually remove the old chip and old solder and reapply new solder in a jig and then reflow the newly soldered gpu back to the board.

I am afraid that it will only get worse as you reflow the device more and more. You do get a little longer time frame when you using an actual reflow than a heat gun but it depends.
