Is the hard drive caddy grounded?

When installing the hard drive, it worked fine without the caddy, but when I mounted the caddy and installed the drive, it acted as if the drive was shorted out because now it doesn't work. Is the possible? Or could it be another reason why the drive does 't work now. It will not be recognized by the laptop.

You could have only partially connected the drive. Be certain you have it the correct side up.

answer accepted. It was not what i was looking for, but it sort of suggested that the drive just pick a bad time to outlive it's usefulness.
