Keyboard not working, but shown in system profiler.

Hey guys,

I got a 2008 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook (the one without keyboard backlight), which has a defective keyboard. I can't tell really much about it, because I bought it used.

None of the keys is working. I read a lot about what can be the problem. I did a complete clean installation of OS X Mountain Lion. The problem is still there, so I guess it's no software problem.

I also checked the flex cable connection (2 times). Nothing.

When I go to the system profiler, the keyboard is shown. So it's recognized and I think, it's no faulty flex cable.

The thing, I was completely wondering about, is that, when I open the screen-keyboard and push the caps lock on it, the green light on the hardware keyboard is lighten up.

I couldn't find anything in the web, about this problem constellation or am searching the wrong ways.

Maybe somebody here has a solution for my problem. Thanks and cheers

They keyboard probably suffered damage from a liquid spill. Easiest thing to do is replace the top case (keyboard is included)

Yes, already thought about that, too. But the top case is really expensive so, hoped to find another solution. Is it a normal thing, that the keyboard led light up but none of the keys is working, when there is a liquid damage? Maybe I should take a closer look at the keyboard :)

As the profiler sees the keyboard we can deduce the keyboard is connected to the logic board. So that leaves the keys and their circuitry that needs repair. These keyboards are very difficult to repair or replace on there own (if you can find a replacement). Thats why the whole top case is replaced with a new keyboard.

I have the same problem (keyboard recognized in profiler) but doesn't work. This keyboard previously worked with my 15" macbook pro (2009), and also currently works on my PC, but now it doesn't work for mac.

Dr, since this is a two year old question with an accepted answer, you would do better to start a new question with your exact symptoms, please give the last four figures of your serial number when asking.
