Battery icon is having X and status no batteries available.

My Macbook Pro (mid 2010) battery icon is having a X (black) in it and the status says No Batteries Available. The power adapter light is green and if I am removing the power adapter, the laptop dies.

I went though some of the solutions and i reset SMC by pressing Shift+Control+Option and Power key. I also did by removing the battery and holding the power key for 5-10 seconds but still the same issue.

Please HELP !!!

MIght be a cracked battery. I had a problem like this with a MacBookAir. Someone piled stuff on in an overhead airplane bin. I had to physically lift the battery out the laptop to be able to find the crack. Sometimes it would not charge or start.. then suddenly it would work fine, then start with the black X in menu. Picking up/moving the laptop could cause it to short out, or reset its proper position.

So if you've dropped, squeezed or stacked something on that laptop your problem might be battery damage.

If the battery doesn't have lose contact then your battery is defiantly gone and you may need to replace it with new one. if your machine is still under warranty then I would suggest to go for warranty claim.

I had the same problem, my 3 year old MacBook Pro has gone through a lot and is on its last lap, I'm a student so I bring it in my bag for almost 12 hours, including a commute, I have accidentally had this computer fly across a train station and it's always been slow going, I just tilted my computer back and it started working again, definitely a temporary fix but if you can't replace it right now, can't take it in, or need to complete that paper now and have no time for this, just try moving it around a bit and find that sweet spot angle

Had the same problem with my 3 year old MacBook Pro that is definitely on it's last lap. If you're a student like me and can't deal with this right now, just keep tilting it this way and that and if there's a sweet spot, you hear something shift inside the computer and it starts working fine again. Hopefully I can replace it soon because this is definitely a temporary fix lol.

Same problem here. mid 2009 MacBook Pro 17”. Put in a new battery, turned on, problem shows up. Took out battery and held power button down for 10 secs while battery was out, rebooted, same problem, reset SMC by pressing Shift+Control+Option and Power key, still no battery available. I know this is an old problem, but it’s still alive, and I’m trying to keep this old machine running.
