Why do I get a series of 5 beeps at start-up?

I have replaced the internal cell battery and am at a loss to try and resolve the infernal beeping. I can not mute the beeping and the laptop does not show any errors. What could be the problem?

Hi, Sorry it is not good news, 5 Beeps from the AMI bios, that is definatly a motherboard problem, it is complaining, a quick fix may well be to upgrade your CPU, in this system you are very limited as to what you can put in there CPU wize. In theory you can, MEM and Bios will play a part, as well as heat, can the system handle an upgrade, make sure there will not be problems with Heatsink, this must fit 100%

I would suggest buying or repairing your motherboard.

The upgrade will only be a temp fix. Where as motherboard will last much longer. if you have a CPu knocking about that you can use , it may be worth the effort.

Your CMOS battery needs to be replaced. They look like a silver nickel or a large watch battery. They usually cost about $2.00 The video below will show you how to remove old CMOS battery and replace with new.

After trying again with replacing the CMOS battery and checking the contacts on the CMOS battery tray, it seemed to have stopped the 5 beeps on this Inspiron n5050.

Simple fix. Usually you will need to replace your CMOS battery (2025 or 2032). Now, if this does not fix it, remove your CMOS battery, flip the battery over, then reseat it.

I have replaced my cmos battery as well in my Inspiron N5050 and it still beeps at startup. Is there anything else I can do besides replacing the motherboard which I did 3 years ago or getting a new computer?

Replace the socket with a better one. It's pretty easy with a soldering iron. I have had a dell 3520 (Same as the n5050 just newer) doing the same thing. The socket was busted.
