Does the iMac 27 mid 2010 support intel i7 875K upgrade?


i´ve bought a intel i7 875K for my iMac mid 2010 27. could it be that the 875k is not supported? i have no display after changing the cpu.

Yes to nonsupport - to eliminate EFI/OS problems you have to stick with CPUs that Apple offered to that logic board...

But the 875K have the same TDP, like the 870

And the Site says:

** The iMac "Core i5" 2.8 27" also can be configured with a 2.93 GHz Quad-Core "Core i7" processor (I7-875K) for an additional US$200. This "Core i7" processor supports Hyper-Threading (it has two threads per core for a total of eight threads for the system) and Turbo Boost (the system can dynamically increase the processor clockspeed to 3.6 GHz when tasks demand).


If the CPU is the same you problem could be in reassembly of the display chain. What does LED #4 tell you? Recheck all your connections (many times connectors that "seemed" to be right turned out to be lose, not fully snapped in, ribbon cables not in far enough or with cams locked).
