Replacing iPhone 4S speakers after being dropped in water?

My friend dropped his iPhone 4S in water and quickly removed it and placed it in rice. Luckily everything else was working, except the loudspeaker at the bottom of the device. I've offered to replace the speaker unit for him and have done this a few times before, but I was wondering if this will solve the problem? Or is the problem deeper than this?
