What is the best way to replace the digitizer?

Do I need a hair dryer or some source of heat to do this? I have it mostly apart (trying to replace the digitizer and maybe LCD) but it is really stuck together hard. Even if I get it apart, will it be ok if I just stick it back together?

Any tips on this area of the repair of the iPhone 1st gen would be great, thanks!

Check out this video. Even though it is a 3G iPhone at about 3 minutes into the clip you will see him use a heat gun for removal of the digitizer.
