Will not boot after apple logo goes to a white screen

I tried to boot my imac today first it had a blue screen then I have tried the pram. The start up cd will not appear on screen. It still chimes and I can hear the drive operating but nothing on the screen

Options

Connect to an external monitor to rule out video card problems. If you see the same thing, or nothing you have a bad video card or logic board. If you see a normal screen you have an internal display chain problem (most likely a HD (software), data cable, or backlight problem) further troubleshooting should point where the problem lies.
