Alternating screen Apple Logo to Dead battery to Blank (black)

Have a n iPhone 4S that friend brought to me dead. Pluged it into the wall charger and the apple logo alternated on and off. Read that it might be a bad battery took the battery out (it was dead with voltmeter) and replaced it with brand new one (3.9 volts on voltmeter). Phone came on and alternated between Apple logo to very low battery (red with lightning bolt underneath it) to blank (black screen) then same sequence over and over again. Plugged it into wall charger continued alternating sequence (still with red battery & lightning bolt NOT plug) for 13 minutes then died completely and will not come on or respond. Took battery out and checked it again with 2 different voltmeters and both registered 3.9 volts. Any ideas about this zombie iPhone?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I'd change the dock connector and see if that will make a difference.

Thanks for the idea of changing the dock connector. I forgot to mention that when I was doing testing with the voltmeter I did the following test of the dock connector; While pluged into the wall charger (with the battery out) I tested the voltage at the battery contacts and it read at the exact same voltage of a different fully functional iPhone 4S. Therefore isn't it safe to presume that at least the power aspect of the dock connector is functioning the same as a fully functional identical iPhone? I will check-out the changing of the dock connector.
