Screen Brightness can not be changed

Hi All

I have an iPod Nano 4th Gen, the brightness of the screen can not be changed suddenly, I tried to change in the settings obviously, but it doesn't work, seems like it is at the minimum brightness.

I have taken my ipod apart, and was expecting a LCD backlight module, I was thinking this is the 'brightness' control, but apparently it doesn't seem to have one.

So does it mean that my display screen is broken and I have to replace the screen please?

Otherwise what should be the solution? or how can I diagnose the problem please?

I have a picture of my ipod, which shows the electronics inside the ipod, one part actually looks a bit dirty, perhaps it is the cause of my problem???

Victor Chan, the "dirt" actually looks more like corrosion. Not uncommon for this particular model Nano. This model iPod has issues with corrosion on the logic board especially around the display connector. It is possible that it is the backlight that is out. Now, the backlight is actual part of the LCD. The inverter circuit is on the logic board. I have never managed to isolate the coil that is responsible for most failure on the Nanos. So the only thing that I can think off right now would be to make sure that the cable is seated properly. There are only a very few ways to try to fix this. The first one is by replacing the LCD (PITA) and the second one is trying to find the coil that is responsible for the backlight (almost impossible) . Follow this guide to get to the logic board and the display as well. Clean all of your parts and pieces with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. Make sure that you clean all the connectors and cable ends. Check for obviously damaged components, replace the battery and do replace the display. Reassemble your iPod and see what you get. Hope this helps, good luck.

I have cleaned the circuit board but it has no help. Does it mean I can only replace it by replacing hardware module? e.g. the display screen??
