red light on top of the iPhone

there is a red light just to the left of my iphone 3GS speaker! i dont have a clue what it means or if it is bad, i have looked it up but its not been made clear to me what is wrong with it!

it is quite a dull light, its basically a dot inside a circle, its strange.

It is probably the proximity sensor. If the light is not very bright, dont worry. The proximity sensor is probably giving off some visible light instead of infrared.
