Can I replace the transparent ribbon cable on MacBook keyboard?

Hello,

There is two ribbon cables for the A1181 Macbook keyboard. The silver one and a wide transparent ribbon cable with silver stripes.

I've broken the last one (changing the hard disk).

As i m not native english, i post a pair of photos.

Can this ribbon cable be repaired/replaced?

Thanks ifixit community ;-)

Hi polfdzpub,

I am not sure what exact model you have... But in any case, based on this guide here on iFixit (step 24), the ribbon cable you are needing has 26 pins.

Here you find such a cable, although it is 20cm long. But it might fit in your case. For that price, I would give it a try.

Looks like you will just have to replace the upper case to repair.

Thanks for answering.

I hoped there was a cheapest solution ...

The keyboard is riveted in place with melted plastic. There's no way you could just put a keyboard in without totally destroying it ... So it's quite impossible to change this ribbon cable.

Thanks anyway!
