Battery is not charging when plugged in?

Hello guys from iFixit,

I changed the display on an iPhone 4S and ripped off the battery connector. With it came one solder pad.

I scraped off a good amount of paint between and around the black lines going from the solder pad and used some solder to make a new solderpad (lost the old one).

I soldered the battery connector in and connected the (discharged) battery. When trying to start it up it shows me to charge the battery, when plugging it in I get the symbol that it charges.

But that's it, it keeps "charging" forever.

After 3 hours it still shows me the same symbol (red battery + bolt below).

I am now looking for a solution for weeks but can't get any further than this.

I'd really appreciate your help with this one, I don't want to throw it away...

Thank you very very much for any help!
