when MacBook powers up... folder with a flashing question mark

my friend needs glasses and had adjusted the size of the screen on my macook, when i asked her to put it back the way it was before... she had no clue what she had done and then started messing with screen display and resolution, and apparently who knows what else because when i went to look at it later after she had left, the only thing that would come up is a flashing folder icon with a question mark inside it ~ please help... what do i do???

Chosen Solution

Either your hard drive has failed or your system has been corrupted. Just coincidence that your friend was messing with it. Start up from your original system installation disk, "C" key with disk in till the Apple logo appears. Go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities > Disk Utility and see if your drive can be repaired. Next repair your permissions.
