Will not boot at all, screen stays black

Hello,

I just purchased a new DC-in board for my MacBook Pro because the old one was intermitantly charging.

I've installed and repaired a lot of parts on MacBooks in the past and have not had any issues.

This time i installed the new DC-in board and now it won't boot up at all. The hard drive makes noise as if its going to start up. But the backlight never lights up, then a few seconds later, it sounds like it shuts down and trys again, then the status light just says solid.

I've tried to reset PRAM, and everything possible. Tried hooking it up to an external monitor, it didn't work. Tried to tether the hard drive (I have another macbook pro 13"), it didn't work.

Everything i've read leads toward a bad logic board, but I'm stumped as to how it happened?

Thanks very much for any input! - Dan

Does the Mag-Safe power adapter connector LED light up at all? And how charged is your battery?

by

Did you try to reinstall your old magsafe dc in board ? The "new" one could be faulty.

Yes the led on the charger lights up as usual and charges the battery just fine.I also did try and reinstall the old one and it did the same thing.the light on the front is solid.the fan comes on,the hardrive(may be the cd drive) makes some noise as if reading.10-15 seconds after start up,the computer shuts down and trys again.the second time it starts the fan and drive do the same thing, but it doesnt try and restart again. It just sits with the fan on and the front light solid.

OK, lets try getting the stuck CD out so you can put in a bootable systems disk in (system recovery disk or OS-X logo'ed systems disk) out of the optical drive

Press and hold the f12 function key as you boot the system up keeping it pressed until the disk ejects (it will take some time) if that fails try it again this time try holding down the mouse button. See Apple TN Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs.

Once you have the CD out restart the system and tell us what it does (don't put anything in the drive yet).
