I have a scratch on my MacBook

My macbook is only 4 months, but today I saw a scratch on the top of the laptop, (where the glowing apple logo's at!) I saw that ifixit has a bottom cover for my laptop but not the top, so is it possible to replace the top cover? If it is possible to do so I'd like to get it done by an Apple Premium reseller, because the LCD and stuff.......... But does anyone know if this is an option? And what the fee is? But the catch is that I live in the Netherlands, the nearest Apple Premium Reseller is called 'Ivizi'. Please HELP!!!!

Right now there is no teardown of the display as this unit is to new. Also getting parts for this machine really takes some time. I have had a topcase on order for over a month now.

Did do you do it via an Apple Premium reseller, or are you going to do it yourself?

I have had some success removing scratches from watch faces etc. with rubbing alcohol. There are other products on the market that may help you remove the scratch so that you don't need to replace the entire piece.

can the rubbing alcohol damage the top even further, or does it just work or not? I don't want to damage my laptop any further because the replacement part for the top isn't available yet.

Hi Jeffrey,

I believe the watch that the alcohol worked on for me had a plastic face (though it was a while ago so I am not 100 percent sure). I only used a small quantity. I don't want to encourage you to experiment with such a costly item as a Mac Laptop. My watch was cheap so I had nothing to lose really.

If you decide you want to experiment, you would only use a very tiny amount. You could put it on a Q-tip and then just try a tiny bit on a little bit of the scratch. That said, most of the info I read online about home remedies (such as alcohol, Brasso, and toothpaste) makes it sound like some damage will occur. So maybe my solution is not the best for you.

I guess you don't want to employ my secondary method which would be to decorate your laptop with stickers :) to hide the scratch.

I hope someone is able to locate the part for you so that you can make the repair properly. Sorry I was not able to help you.
