all I can find is conflicting information

Hello there

im looking to add a SSD to my late 2009 27 inch 2.8 i7 imac.

all i seem to be able to find is conflicting information.

can i add an ssd behind the optical bay of this machine or is that only for 2011 machines?

do i need to swap out the original HDD if i can for optimal speeds? and if you could help me what options do i have open to me?

regards

An SSD will increase your boot speed, but not your write speed... leave the original HD where it is. As to your "conflicting information", you need to properly ID the machine your researching. Researching "iMac upgrades" without looking at specific model information is like researching upgrades for a Ford Truck without model specific information... you'll get different answers.

You can't just drop an SSD into the optical drive slot, but there are kits out there that allow you to change the optical drive for an SSD, (put the optical drive in an external case).
