Since both these functions are present on a single cable maybe the cable connector came loose. See if the Vibrate/Mute Switch works. If not, then possibly Flex Cable #5 came loose from the Logic Board and simply needs to be pressed back down carefully into place. Before opening and during any repair of iPhone 3GS make sure the iPhone is OFF.
