Data Transfer between iMac with faulty logic board and new iMac Intel

Trying to transfer data from a G5 with a faulty logic board to an iMac Intel fresh out of the box. I attempted this once by removing the front panel and using a multi imput bridge connected to the faulty iMac hd to a USB connected to the new Intel. Copied files, but they are just images. My question is, will Migration work with just one fully working computer, and if so, will I need a firewire? Or is there a way to bridge the two and fully transfer data over the bridge cable?

Yes it will work from one good machine. Remove your old HD and put it in an external case. (Since new machines can boot via USB you don't need a firewire connection) Connect that to your new machine... you can use Migration Assistant to move the entire contents (including account) to your new machine.
