Multiple problems with HTC.

My 'POWER BUTTON' stopped working normally as it should in the Summer. It would work, I just would have to push it twice or three times for it to work. But then as a few months went by, it worked perfectly fine..why is that?

When I charge my phone, I have to move the charger a certain way for it to charge, no matter if the charger's old or new...how come?

A few months ago, I was watching an Youtube video while charging my phone since it was on very low battery. My phone began to become very hot and then went black and has been like that ever since. I've research and I tried doing a hard reset, the menu came up once but went black again, possibly due to the charger problem I just stated above. For the past few months I tried to do an hard reset but the menu NEVER pops up...perhaps the screen is broken...help? Every answer counts!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

no , one has answered, so, sounds like your USB port is bad. its not terribly uncommon for this phone, if stress is put on that port. not terribly hard to fix, but need solider skills etc.

the power button, i dont know, you could find out once you go to fix your usb port. replace that too.

lastly, sounds like the USB port is just gone now since it wont turn on ? it wont charge? i'm not clear on that, so, try finding another way to charge the battery and see if the phone works or powers on again.

these phones do get warm, when doing navigation with GPS on, while playing music etc.....

seems like based on your description, like its not " dead" as it has started once, after crashing per your description above,

hope this info provides some help for your issues, I would be more specific , i only have so much info and with the info I provided here, should be able to diagnose it further and fix it, or provide more info as your testing progresses.

Hi @squared03 ,

Check that the display brightness setting is suitable. Here is a link to the User Guide, scroll to p.30 to view how to change the setting. Apologies if you have already done this.

If it is OK then either the backlight in the display is faulty or there is a problem with the backlight power supply on the systemboard.

The power button sounds like the plastic outer button that is actually attached to the outer case sometimes gets misaligned or part of it gets detached and therefor does not make proper contact with the internal button(attached to the main board)

Charging problem is most likely a bad and/or loose charging port.

Because of the bad/loose charging port there is a possibility that the plug could have shorted something out on the board.

My HTC EVO 4G had a very simular problem. Mine too would get extremely warm, then the screen would go black. I would push the power button and it would come on for a fraction of a second and right back off. Sometimes I would receive a call, the screen would be lit and as I attempted to answer, the screen would go black, then on, then off. Very frustrating! I really didn't want to do a factory reset but figured I had nothing (yet everything) to lose as it wasn't working the way it was. It took a while for the reset to complete but it seems to have fixed the problem thus far, though it has been just over 24 hours. By the way, this is my 3rd Htc Evo 4G, I've gotten 2 replacements already! The last one I replaced had the same issue. Thank goodness I had purchased insurance!
