My Firewire Port will not respond?

I recently tried to hook up my Sony HDV camera via my Firewire Port like normal on the back of my IMac. To my supprise it wouldn't connect I tried the same camera on another IMac and worked fine. I researched this problem on Apple forum and the said to unplug the power supply and wait 15 min to let the system reboot still nothing. My local repair shop said that I would have to replace the logic board to fix the problem. Is there any other way to fix this problem other then a complete board replacement?

No - ports are integrated onto the logic board - there's no DIY "fix" for a broken or bad port.
