Flickering Screen at some angles

My laptop has never taken a fall

in fact it rarely leaves my desk

however as of last week

the screen changes to obscure (pink purple colours) when the screen is at certain angles

However if I push my finger down on the grey soft plastic inside hinge (where the screen meets the keyboard)

the image momentarilyA1211 returns to normal?

Is this simple a missteated connection?

additional information

it works just fine on an external monitor

it works fine if left at a 90 - 100 degree angle

and it flickers as you close the lid

any help would be appreciated

Looks like a faulty inverter cable since you get a change in the display when the lid is at a certain angle. The cable might be damaged in the MBP hinge. Often the pink color is associated with a failing backlight lamp but in your case it can be caused by the inverter board not sending the right voltage to the lamp because of the faulty inverter cable. Anyway first thing to do is to remove the top case and check the inverter and LVDS cables connections to the logic board. Take off the connectors from the sockets and reinsert them.

If the inverter board cable is damaged in the hinge it should be replaced as soon as possible cause it could short in the hinge and ruin your logic board.
