No signal - Connector to cellular damage?

Hello,

I have a problem with my iPhone 4 S.

The phone has WiFi and Bluetooth signal, but NO cellular signal (no 3g). It looks like the connector to the antenna cable may have been damage. if you take a look at the picture: http://images.anandtech.com/doci/4971/MD...

The "metall ring" on the connected for the cable is damage. Approx 30 % of the ring is gone/missing. But the cable still connects and fits, does not fall off.

Is the reason that the ring has to be complete to get a connection? Can it be fixed without replacing the connector?

Thank you for answers!

Answer this question I have this problem too

I wouldike t see a picture of your connector, sounds like it would be ok if only 30% is missing and it still clicks in. Are you running ios 6? Mybe its the supid time/date bug

Hello,

Here you have a picture of the connector:

Can it just be a bug in the IOS 6?

I've just notice that if I take out my simcard the phone still search for signals, also if I turn on the phone without simcard inserted it still search. It has now been searching for signal for over 10 min, and still searching (without simcard).

What to do?

Hi 30% of the ring is chipped off will make a big difference in the signal, i would suggest you head down to any repair shop that is willing to permanently solder you cable to the connector ring , so you cant disassemble anymore or you can ask them to bypass any solder the contact points to close the circuit, hope that helps cheers!

Hello,

I'm afraid that I have no repair shop nearby that can do this kind of job, so I'm on my own.

Do you thing it will work to solder a small drop on the cable to the connector? It won't just make it worse? Perhaps it will short circuit?

Thank you all for great answers!

I do agree with iwillfix on this. The outer ring is connected to ground at various points and even so there is a piece missing, it should be plenty of contact. Stay away from soldering to the connector since it will prevent any further future repair without destruction. If you have to solder, replace the connector. These are standard HSC RF connectors, the one from the iPhone is made by Murata and the number is MM4829-2702. Datasheet is available right here

Thank you so much for your answer. It did not help to set the date and time right. Maybe the only way to fix this is by replacing this connector. I have also replaced the antenna, but nothing happened.

By the way; When I set the date and time correct, the phone stopped searching for signals when the simcard was not inserted. So that's one good thing.
