Blank LCD screen at boot up

I got this white screen with a folder that had a question mark on it, after reading through threads of possible answers for my case multiple persons suggest a fu,l system reboot. I popped in my Mac is cd and the hard drive would not show up onset the disk utility now would it show up as a drive to install the os.. I googled for help with that too ..threads suggested I check the Hdd power and connection within the iMac... I went through the motions ,..now my new problem is the LCD is blank at start up. I can hear the start up sound but I can't hear anything. I did plug back in all the cables connected to the LCD screen and the board. What next? Fml-_-

Connect to an external monitor. If there's no video it is a VGC (VPU) problem not cable or LCD. If the external video works you're back to troubleshooting the connectors. inverter and LCD.

Check out the diagnostic LEDs - ''if there's any of the first three not lighting or staying lit that will help with troubleshooting.
