Black screen at start up and keyboard seems inactive?
Hi, Having shut down MBP as normal, the following day when starting up, the computer made the usual start up noises but the screen remained black. The caps lock light doesn't come on either making me think the keyboard is also not active. It's rather strange as there hasn't been any issues in the past or indications of forthcoming problems. I have attempted some of the solutions provided here with similar faults but without success and would appreciate any assistance you can provide to resolve this. The computer is no longer under warranty and finances are very tight and cannot afford to take it to Apple for a paid for repair.
My thanks for any possible assistance.
Is this a good question?

First thing we need to know is have you connected it to an external monitor, and if so is that ok or black too? If it's black you have a damaged VGC(VPU) and need a new logic board. If it's working from there you have several possible solutions.

Hi there Machead3,
Thank you so much for your response to my posting. I have tried an external monitor but with the same result. I am also pretty sure the issue is with the logic board. Although this laptop is over four years old, I was wondering whether Apple will agree to repair it for free taking into account that this has been a well published design fault and nVidia were supposed to be covering the cost for any repairs. Maybe I will contact Apple to see if this would be possible. Not holding much hope but it's worth a try! I do hope so. Any other minimal cost solution would be much appreciated.
Thanks again for your input.
