Ejects DVD from my iMac but goes in after pushing hard

Hi,

My 21.5 in Imac was just bought a year ago, but past the warranty date. One day when I was about to insert my dvd into the dvd slot, it just wouldn't go in, it just sat there inside halfway as if something was stuck. There wasn't anything inside and we were sure about that. We attempted to insert it again with force, and it worked and read the drive. However, we have to push it hard multiple times, sometimes push the dvd inside using a ruler just for it to go in.

My question is, since I know buying a new original one will be expensive, are there any parts within the optical disk drive that can be replaced? Can this still be repaired without buying a new optical drive from Apple?

You can buy an optical disk drive from anyone... but be sure to match the type, connector and hight. Apple uses vendors for optical drives (they don't build their own) so finding the right drive is a bit like buying tires for your car. This site can give you the pertinent information you need to search Google Shopping.
