My Problem

iPods like to be used regularly, not shut away for months (years) and then pulled out for occasional heavy use. Both my iPod Video and iPod Mini could only play 20 minutes before being out of juice. Charging them took longer and longer. New purchases were out of the question.

My Fix

Thanks to iFixIt, the batteries arrived faster than expected and the video tutorials made replacing the batteries a snap. I am happily back in heavy use mode with both!

My Advice

The step-by-step photos were essential to my repair experience. Once the batteries were inserted, it was a shocker to read something along the lines of "to complete the repair, follow instructions in reverse" - an abrupt end to the hand-holding repair experience. I would have felt better about coming to that notice if I was told up front that the instructions would take you in, but not out.

My Problem

La batterie était morte depuis quelques années

My Fix

La réparation s est très bien déroulée grâce aux images et explications de ifixit. Pas besoin d être un crack en informatique pour réussir la manipulation

My Advice

Que de suivre les instructions . Merci ifixit.

Une dernière remarque, quand vous achetez du site il faut attendre entre 3 et 4 semaines avant de recevoir le colis. C est très lent mais le résultat est impeccable

My Problem

Battery died (8 years old)

My Fix

Very easy with the aid of the ifixit guide (approx. 30 minutes)

My Advice

Take your time removing the lightly glued top & bottom to avoid cracking these plastic pieces or damaging the aluminum iPod case (I carefully went around the perimeter multiple times with a utility knife).

Make a note of how the battery wires are routed and take care not to pinch/cut them when sliding the "guts" back into the iPod case.

My Problem

battery had run down

My Fix

the replacement went as expected

My Advice

you can do it!

My Problem

Old battery that did not work

My Fix

It was very easy - just follow the directions. It took about 10 minutes because I was being cautious

My Advice

Follow the directions

My Problem

Battery no charge. Broke friend need music. Me rescue perfectly usable and stylish flotsam from the seething riptides of forced obsolescence, fix battery, give to friend.

My Fix

My Mini wears its scars with pride. (Seriously, they do not want you getting into that case. At all. You're going to have to chip the plastic.)

My Advice

Don't Panic. Especially when you plug in the charger to the guts, rejoice that it powers on, and panic because the clickwheel doesn't work. The clickwheel doesn't work because you had to set it to the HOLD position to disassemble the Mini. That should be added to the instructions, IMHO.

My Problem

Traded an old student desk for an old iPod mini that worked only when plugged in or about 20 minutes on an exhausted battery. I really only wanted it to keep plugged into an alarm clock, but when my Nano died from water damage (thanks to a little accident by my daughter) I decided to drop in a new battery and bring the Mini up to travel speed.

My Fix

Thanks to the ifixit site, I checked out the 'how to,' ordered my spudger and replacement battery kit and got to work. The photos and instructions were clear and straight forward. The only glitch was that once I reassembled it, the sound was very faint. Took it apart again and replugged the connectors that had been unplugged during the battery replacement and put it back together again, Turned it on and have been rockin' and rollin' since.

My Advice

Thanks ifixit! Great guides, great prices, and great service.

It's not that hard, and where it is hard the site tells you what to look out for.

I'm tempted to keep ifixit my secret and take those old dead electronics off of my friends hands, fix them and sell them at a profit, but this site is too good to keep to myself.

Now if only I can breath new life into that White Screen of Death Nano...

My Problem

The original battery had run the course. A overnight charge gave only about one album of play. Needed more juice.

My Fix

The spudger was a bit thick and required more force than I expected but served adequately. I did break off one small clip at first attack, though it went together in the end. The one big problem was reinserting the assembly, it hung up part way in. After removing and reinserting several times I finally managed to stuff the guts back in. One upper corner of the case had encountered pavement some time in its life, which made getting the cover back on a little stiff but in the end the iPod Mini was back together. Happily, it once again holds a proper charge.

My Advice

A thinner spudger end might be nice. As for the insert problem, I found the factory battery stuck to the board with a bit of rubber. Detaching the battery left a bit of the rubber on the board. I realized after the fact that the new battery is a bit thicker and the rubber should have been removed from the board.

My Problem

The re-chargeable battery had run out of re-charges. I always took my daily 1-hour walks supported by my fast-paced music to keep the old feet moving with the beat. Then recently, the music would suddenly stop, and even though the battery had just been fully charged, the mini pooped out in the middle of my walk. The Apple Store referred me to ifixit.

My Fix

The repair went excellent! Your pictures are exceptionally clear, as well as the instructions that go with it. The repair went quickly, easily, and I can now walk again.

(I can't say that for another product I recently purchased from my local pet store - an electric litter box. Their instructions and photos were so bad, it took me several days to put together what should have been a 1/2 hour project). My cat was disappointed, too!

Hooray for ifixit!

My Advice

No advice needed. I'm just glad I found out about you!

Sorry, I didn't take any photos - the repair went so fast, I didn't stop to take any. Your photos are excellent - you don't need mine. But my one-eyed cat Dolly is happy now, too!

My Problem

Both my wife's iPod Mini and her friend's iPod Nano had terrible battery life, and recently the Mini started showing the "Sad iPod" icon. I thought if I replaced the battery, the Mini might get a proper charge, and I could also check the hard drive's connection.

My Fix

Overall, the repair was 50/50. The Nano change over went well, other than the control wheel's connection coming apart just as I fed the rest of the ribbon cable in. The spudger made getting the connection together easier. The Mini's battery was faster to change, but the Sad iPod is still there. The iSesamo made taking off the covers easier; my experience with the plastic tools is iffy, but the iSesamo worked like a breeze over and over.

My Advice

Desoldering the battery wires from the Nano really needed a vice to hold the board so it wouldn't move. I had to use my 7-year old's hands instead.
