Today I unexpectedly died. Again.

This has been happening a lot recently. Amid a fulfilling morning of 99 cent games and ever-changing adventures, I shot past the 20 percent warning with no sign of slowing down. I knew I was growing older and that my time was running out. Every day I give all I can, but after so many charge cycles, I just don't last as long as I used to.

What bothers me, though, is how my flaw affects my electronic friends. I try to breathe electron life into their veins, but it's becoming harder and harder. I know what needs to be done, but I'm powerless to solve this problem myself.

So please help me. Get me out of here and replace me with a new unit. Don't let my friends suffer because of me. In the end, my lithium ions just aren't what they used to be, and it's a shame for the rest of the phone to suffer.

My Problem

My old iPhone 3GS would keep crashing once the percentage was around 50-60% and the forums wasn't any help (Those Idiots), then I saw iFixit and some of the testimonies and saw that pretty girl do the overview and I thought, "what the %@$^, why not?"

My Fix

I only saw the overview from the pretty lady on iFixit with that blonde hair, glasses, pink shirt, awesome smile... I digress. I made it through but had some hard parts. READ THE PICTURE MANUAL ON THIS SITE. Now, I had a problem getting the screen off, getting the 3rd Ribbon back into place, and getting the screws back in without falling off my non-magnetic screw driver. Finished around 30Minutes with just the plastic piece, battery, and screwdriver.

My Advice

READ THE MANUAL ON THIS SITE.

My Problem

So I left my 3GS completely discharged for a week or so and when I decided to recharge it, about an hour after being fully charged, I noticed that my outer case was bulging a bit on the back. I pulled the case off and found the back panel of the 3GS expanded WAY out! It had expanded enough that it popped the screen assembly out on the top.

My Fix

I quickly started to disassemble the 3GS to make sure if the battery exploded it was far away from my phone hardware. I unscrewed the system board and it was practically ejected from the phone because of the pressure of the battery below it. It was actually slightly bent when pulled it out. The batter was about 1/2" thick where it should have been around 1/8" thick... wow!

My Advice

I think my problem was caused by me leaving the phone completely discharged and then bringing it back to 100% charge suddenly. I don't know that for sure, but I've found online where some people say to store it for extended periods of time in the fridge in a sealed baggie (moisture) with around 40-60% charge.

My Problem

Batterie en fin de vie

My Fix

Mal, la batterie envoyée par iFixit était défectueuse, MAIS, la batteries défectueuse a été remboursée par iFixit sans problème. J'ai ensuite fait appel à une société spécialisée pour le remplacement de la batterie et cela fonctionne maintenant.

My Advice

J'espère qu'il ne tombera pas comme moi sur une batterie défectueuse ;-)

My Problem

My wife's 3GS battery just wouldn't hold a charge. Since we're only 6 months from the (rumored) new iPhone 5 release, she didn't want to buy a new one new. With ifixit's picture tutorial, I figured, hey, no problem - I can do it.

My Fix

The repair went well. The picture tutorials were great. Not spectacular, because some closeups of some of the parts would have been really nice, but they were very helpful and I got the job done. I would definitely replace other parts (if necessary and out of AppleCare) via ifixit again.

My Advice

First, be sure to check that the sim card fits before you screw things back down. It was a terrible experience having spent about an hour trying to get those tiny screws in place only to find out everything wasn't properly in place and the sim card wouldn't fit. Sad times.

I had no idea how difficult it would be to get the screws back into place. My wife decided to give me a hand after ___ minutes of me yelling at them. She offered me some tweezers - GET SOME TWEEZERS! They made the screws so much easier to handle. Other than that, take your time, and you'll be just fine.

My Problem

The old battery didn't hold a charge.

My Fix

Very smooth due to the iFfixit guide

My Advice

Follow the guides and you can't go wrong.

My Problem

Well I have a old 3GS that I have been hanging on to since it came out. I constantly tether the thing so I suspect that is why the battery would not hold a charge. Eventually I could barely do anything with my phone unless it was actually plugged in. So I ordered a new battery and waited. During this wait time, I was coming home from the gym and as I was getting out of my car, my hands were a bit shaky and dropped my phone on the ground. For some reason I also decided to take my case of my phone...resulting a smash screen. Needless to say I then had to order a new screen as well.

My Fix

Repair went smooth except I was a not paying attention to detail and ordered a battery for a 3G not 3GS. Kept the "old" new battery and ordered the proper one. Repair went smooth with no issues. I came to being soo good at it as I had to do it multiple times, due to me thinking something was not installed correctly when it was actually the wrong battery. I now do not need any guide to install a new battery on a iPhone 3G/3GS.

My Advice

Make sure you order the proper battery!!!

My Problem

Had to replace the battery in my 3GS, phone was dying anytime it wasn't plugged into a charger, even if the battery said 100% it would die and I would have to put it on a charger to get it to turn back on

My Fix

Was nervous that I would end up with a paperweight, but it went very smooth, I just followed the guide every step of the way, the only hiccup I had was that I do not own a hair dryer, so removing the old battery took longer than expected, that "mild" adhesive they have on there seemed like it could hold a car together lol, but I finally pried it out and everything else went perfect, the phone is acting like it did the day I first got it!

My Advice

The tip about a magnet for the screws was an awesome idea! They are so small and I know I would have lost half of them if not for that tip! So thank you so much whoever thought of it, also use a hair dryer to loosen the glue holding the olds battery in, it took me about an extra 10 min. Just to get the old battery out, do it the easy way if you can

My Problem

order new battery for iphone 3gs

My Fix

battery replaced without a problem

My Advice

Make sure to remove the camera housing or you will burst the cable.

My Problem

My Iphone 3GS was getting depressed, it was dying at 60%, and couldn't keep up with my Insane IG camera apps. SO I ordered a new one, the phone was sad to see it power source leave... :(

My Fix

After a complicated, but life saving surgery my Phone 3GS emerged anew, alive and brilliant running off a whole new power source...

My Advice

Don't tell your 3GS it isn't the same battery, it makes the painful process that much harder...

My Problem

No matter what charge level the battery was at, phone would just shut down. Could not restart phone with out putting a charger on it. Apple store wanted way too much to replace battery and ATT wanted a 2 year contract for a 99 cent replacement phone. Did not want to get stuck with contract with IPhone 5 coming out before 2 years was up. Needed a GOOD solution. Found a GREAT one with Ifixit.

My Fix

I got my kit at 5pm and by 5:30 job done and phone works like new again. The guide was so well writen and the photos so helpful in visualizing the instructions that anyone can complete this repair.

My Advice

Unless your IPhone is under warranty Ifixit is place to go for replacing your battery.
