My Problem
My two boys use an old iPhone 3g for games. It got dropped and the screen broke.
My Fix
Everything went smoothly except the removal of the glass screen from the metal frame. The video for the Front Panel installation stops before showing how to remove the glass. I had to look up another video (not from iFixit site) which showed you how to use a hair dryer to loosen the adhesive between the frame and glass.
But overall it was good experience and I fixed the screen and added a new battery while I was in there. All for about $60.
My Advice
I would pay the little extra and get the whole front panel, not just the glass screen. The last step of separating the glass from the frame was far and away the most difficult and uncertain. If I simply had to install a new frame (with home button, etc), it would have been much more simple.
My Problem
Ma chérie est tomber avec le téléphone
My Fix
La vitre tactile n'est pas facile à retirer mais sinon tout le reste a été génial.
My Advice
Non
My Problem
cheaper to do myself and easy with your guide
My Fix
wellllllllllll i ordered the wrong glass replacement. i have the 3g
need to order the correct one.
My Advice
make sure you listen and do what i fix it states. look at the back of your i phone and look up the correct part. then order
My Problem
My dear wife's 3g fell out her pocket getting out of the car, breaking the front panel. My daughter's 3gs slipped out of her hand shattering the front panel.
My Fix
The repair on both phones went smoothly. The step by step instructions gave me confidence through the whole process. The adhesive backing is a bit tricky to get off, but once an edge is loosened it comes right off.
My Advice
Order your complete kit from a reputable seller like iFixit. It may cost a bit more, but you have confidence that you are using the proper parts and have everything you need.
Be PATIENT when applying heat to loosen adhesive. The right amount of heat and it comes right off. Heat also loosens the residue adhesive so it just peels off.
My Problem
I have a friend at work and I noticed that his phone screen was half broken off. I offered to take care of it for him as long as he just covered the cost of the repair parts.
My Fix
I ordered the parts and they arrived very quickly. The repair manual said that this was a difficult replacement but I didn't have any trouble with it. After I had the new glass panel installed I reassembled the phone. I got all the way to reconnecting the cables and I noticed that cable #2 wasn't sitting as tightly as the original was. After hours of trying to figure it out and my friend getting more and more worried and repeatedly asking if I knew what I was doing I went online to see if anyone else had any problems. Finding nothing I went back to the beginning and did something I should have done in the first place. I checked the model number and found that he had the iPhone 3GS and not the 3G so I had the wrong part. Other then that the repair went great. Would have been a 2 hour job had I ordered the correct part.
My Advice
As hard as it might be at times you must assume that everyone, friends and family included, is stupid. My friend swore he had the iPhone 3G and not the 3GS and I took his word for it and ended up with the wrong part. He was able to find a local repair shop and do a one for one exchange for the correct part but it would have saved time and stress on both of our parts had I just checked in the first place.
My Problem
broken shattered cracked screen. dropped too many times in an Otter box which is supposed to be protect it but doesn't!
My Fix
took about 2.5 hours. the hardest part was getting the adhesive to melt so the glass could be scraped.
My Advice
also, then reinstalling the 3 cable was difficult but the key was that is doesn't have to go back all the way in.
make sure to keep your screws separated and remember which ones went where. the how to photos are great when dissembling however, harder to know if you are putting the phone back togetehr correctly going backwards.
My Problem
Front panel cracked and headphone jack was dead.
My Fix
Hard and took alot of patience
My Advice
The instructions are good but you really need to remember where everything goes. (NO INTERRUPTIONS)
My Problem
Dropped my iPhone 3g on the pavement, a small crack in the corner. It didn't affect the touch screen, but sure was ugly.
My Fix
The repair went smoothly, the instructions were great. It was difficult to separate the broken glass shards from the plastics, but it only took 15 minutes of careful work with a heat gun and the included spudger. The whole repair took about an hour, there was some difficulty with reconnecting the display cables.
My Advice
Go slowly and take your time working on separating the front panel from the plastics. Make sure you route wires correctly and ensure they are plugged in right.
My Problem
Dropped phone cracked screen
My Fix
Better than I could of expected
My Advice
Change your repair manual. I found you cant use suction cup on cracked glass. I used a piece of packing tape over the cracked glass then it worked like a charm. I suggest you add this step to your repair manual
My Problem
not only did the screen crack again, but after 3 weeks of using it cracked, the touchscreen stopped working
My Fix
It was quick and easy as it was the second time in a short period of time for my wife's phone.
My Advice
If the touchscreen stops working it's very hard to allow the battery to drain as it keeps going into sleep mode, but never swap the parts out if phone is stuck on. Let it drain even if it takes a week
