Product Overview

Two part cleaner used to dissolve thermal paste and purify the surfaces of heat sinks and processors before applying new thermal paste. Includes one 30 ml bottle of thermal material remover and one 30 ml bottle of thermal surface purifier.

Through our own internal testing, we've found that ArctiClean is an awesome product for easily removing all traces of thermal paste from processors and heat sinks. The thermal material remover dissolves thermal paste to minimize the amount of scrubbing on delicate processors, and the thermal surface purifier removes all oily residue, leaving a pristine surface for applying new thermal paste.

My Problem

If your hard drive fails in a new iMac, Apple has a new way of "holding' their screens in - double sided tape. Gone is nice mechanical fasteners such as screws and the magnets.

Naturally you have one shot of pulling OUT the screen but the glue won't let you replace it. Get those from an Apple Store "No sir, you MUST BRING IT IN FOR REPAIR". A $70 hard drive ends up being $250 from Apple here in Australia. If you want to do it yourself Apple refuse to sell you the screen sealing tape to hold the lot back together - regardless if it was out-of-warranty.

It was sure nice to see iFixit has the sealing tape to fit.

My Fix

I'm ready to go - just haven't done it yet but I have the tools, fixing and instructions.

My Advice

Make sure you know what model iMac you have BEFORE opening it - finding out that you need special tools, fixing tapes etc. AFTER you open it will only delay your repair.

Review those great "fix it yourself' iFix-It, then get to work.

My Problem

Existing 250 GB HDD filling up, and feeling sluggish.

My Fix

Repair couldn't have gone more swimmingly. All the tools to hand, and the instructions simple enough for an idiot (ie. me) to follow. Boot-up a little tense, but needn't have worried.

My Advice

Ok I needed a bit more space, but blown away by the speed increase. Never realised the HDD was such a bottleneck on my system. Should have done it ages ago. Make sure you buy the external adaptor to clone the drive before fitting it and you'll be whizzing along in no time. Oh and amazingly speedy delivery from iFixit (and I live on a remote Scottish island).

My Problem

I installed a used Motherboard and noticed the material between the heatsinks and board components. I contacted IFIXIT and got the information I was looking for.

My Fix

So far I've not had any problems, all went well.

My Advice

Thank You for this information. There should be a note added to the Motherboard replacement information about this procedure.

My Problem

My original release day PS3 finally bit it. With no backwards compatibility in the new models I really wanted to keep this badboy running. It had outlived so many of my friend's PS3s.

My Fix

Followed the guide, watched vid. easy. 2 hours to tear down and put back, 2 hours clean everything EVERYTHING and re-Thermal paste, 4 minutes of cooking on low heat, let cool over-night.

My Advice

Print out the guide, tape screws to the corresponding pages. lay out parts and move backward from your pile, as you put it back together you move back across parts in order.

Way back I had added four adhesive furniture feet to the bottom and always kept it horizontal not sure if the extra airflow underneath helped but working on seven years old before croaking, not bad.

My Problem

ASD was reporting the Thermal interface test as failed.

My Fix

Using the ifixit guides to replace the heatsink and replace the thermal interface was very easy. It was a complete success.

My Advice

No further advice.

My Problem

Up grade the motherboard and processor of a Dell Inspiron from i3 to i5 with 6 gb of RAM and 500 hdd. and I use the Artic Silver Cleaner and Artic Silver Thermal Paste for the processor and heat zinc . The rest is history...

The repair went smooth, I took my time on getting things right the first time, so I don't have to back and to the same job twice.

Advice: Just be patients for to the kind of work that your doing and secure that the work is done right the first time.

My Problem

A black screen with single beep every five seconds when attempting to turn on the computer was the starting point of this endeavour. The backup hadn't been working for about a month (of course) and some rather valuable information was needed from the hard drive (my wife's academic work).

I toyed with the idea of pulling out the hard drive and recovering the data but decided to go for the repair because firstly, the computer was still adequate for our needs and secondly, this was by far the more interesting option.

My Fix

I was unaware of what this beeping sound meant but after some online investigation I learnt that this signals failed RAM and also that the RAM is soldered onto the logic board in this particular model. A link to ifixit was a great find and provided precise information regarding a repair.

I ordered the suggested tools and the logic board through ifixit and they came via Fedex within a week (to Australia). The repair was straight forward following the repair guide and the computer works like nothing ever happened to it - super!

My Advice

If you don't like throwing things out as soon as they break and enjoy a mild challenge, then this is the way to go.

My Problem

We had 2-XBox 360's develop the RROD problem at the same time. I have had pretty good results with iFixit's iPod repairs in the past so I decided to give the XBox repairs a try!

My Fix

Repair went smooth. It does take some patience getting into the case. Took about 3 hours with distractions (kids, T.V., etc.) and the re-assembly was a snap. The first XBox works perfectly! Now I just need to get the parts (heatsinks, screws, etc.) since I already have the tools AND the experience! Thanks iFixit! :-)

Just be patient. Sorry I didn't take pictures but will do so on the next one. :-)

My Problem

Heard that I could upgrade my 2006 Mac Mini to make it faster. Give it NEW life.

Using the guides and Tools from IFixit.com I was able to follow step by step and upgrade CPU, RAM, Optical drive, HDD.

My Advice
