A simple rear panel transplant might be the cure for a cracked case, but would ignore the more serious malady that has hindered the case of every iPhone to date: opacity.

This replacement rear panel is complete with all the necessary parts including camera lens, flash diffuser and bezel.

You may also want to consider getting a nifty screen protector, so that your iPhone can play nice with your keys.

NOTE: If you have received your panel already and have an issue with blurry pictures or it looks like your lens is scratched, make sure you have removed the very thin protective film that is on the inside. It can be removed with your fingernail. Do not use something metal to take it off. If there is still some residue on the lens, a micro fiber cloth should take it right off.

When I first bought my iPod Touch, I became enslaved to the world of apps. I downloaded every free app on the planet…but it wasn't enough. They were all the same. On the throw-off, I sent the iFrisbee hurtling over the opposing team's heads. It landed on the infield with an impressive explosion of glass shards, metal bits, and digitizer pieces.

Our game had to be cut short that day. Fortunately, iFixit sells iPod Touch Gen 2 Front Panel Assemblies, which includes the touchscreen glass, integrated digitizer, metal frame, and home button. It worked perfectly and we rescheduled the game for the following week.

Today I unexpectedly died. Again.

This has been happening a lot recently. Amid a fulfilling morning of 99 cent games and ever-changing adventures, I shot past the 20 percent warning with no sign of slowing down. I knew I was growing older and that my time was running out. Every day I give all I can, but after so many charge cycles, I just don't last as long as I used to.

What bothers me, though, is how my flaw affects my electronic friends. I try to breathe electron life into their veins, but it's becoming harder and harder. I know what needs to be done, but I'm powerless to solve this problem myself.

So please help me. Get me out of here and replace me with a new unit. Don't let my friends suffer because of me. In the end, my lithium ions just aren't what they used to be, and it's a shame for the rest of the phone to suffer.

This display assembly will only work on the GSM/AT&T iPhone 4, as the CDMA/Verizon iPhone has a different antenna configuration, and therefore different display mounts.

Other companies may try to tell you that you can independently replace the front glass and LCD, so this product comes with a free, fair warning: you can't, as much as we'd like that you could.

iPhone 4's are great. You can browse the web, play games, make phone calls, and do countless other questionably trivial things, all at the swipe of your finger. However, unbeknownst to most iPhone 4 users, this elegant instrument of information is only a crack away from an ugly, abrasive, fingertip-shredding monster. The iPhone 4 is by no means fragile, but many cases of shattering the front glass have been reported from things as simple as falling out of a pocket to other, more severe situations. A fancy screen protector can help your glass stay as beautiful as the day the Apple factory spat it out, but once the damage has been done replacement is your only option.

The worst part about shattering the front glass on the iPhone 4 isn't the bleeding fingertips that come free with it, it's that you will also have to replace the LCD even if you didn't break it. We hate to be the bringers of bad news, but "c'est la vie," as the Canadians say.
