MacBook/MacBook Pro 15" 8x SuperDrive

$149.95

Product code: IF185-040-1

Product Overview

Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Look up in the sky! It's a bird…It's a plane…It's SuperDrive! BadDrives take warning: able to write DVD-R at 8x, SuperDrive has the speed and strength to annihilate the competition.

NOTE: SuperDrive vulnerable to KryptoniteDiscs.

The MacBook/MacBook Pro 15" 8x SuperDrive does not include the metal mounting bracket or the SuperDrive data ribbon cable since they're easily transferred from your original optical drive. Anyway, when you've got a drive this Super, any extras are adding glitter to gold, right?

The SuperDrives are labeled as UJ-857-C, UJ-867, or GSA-S10N. The optical drives are interchangeable, and therefore compatible with each other.

The tools required for installation differ per model. Please refer to your specific installation guide below for a more accurate and up-to-date list of required tools.

My Problem

I bought our Macbook new a few years ago from the Apple Store (Santa Rosa Model) and we love it. However, the optical drive started working irratically recently. It did not read sometimes, and occasionally it would not burn, or the disc burned had problems. Decided to replace with your Super Drive.

My Fix

I would have NEVER been able to do this without your photos and step by step instructions. In addition, the required screw driver is not a size that most folks have handy in their home, so I was very happy I also ordered the recommended tools from you (including the sparger). Your website is fantastic. I would have never been able to figure out my model and what type of drive to order that was compatable. But your website guided me through the process. And lastly, you were right, the new drive SCREAMS! That thing is much faster than the original drive. Many thanks.

My Advice

I was originally going to take it to the Apple store to fix it (and I was even considering forking out big bucks to replace the whole laptop!), but Apple Store never answered their phones. Glad I went to you. I changed the drive out it in the time it would have taken me to drive over to the store and then go back and pick it up.

My Problem

the DVD don't work,

My Fix

change it very easy, it took 15 min.

My Advice

reboot mac afterwood

My Problem

Superdrive broken, I need to replace it. I am very happy with your help and I think that in future I'll contact you again if I need to fix my computer. Thak you for you kindness, the high quality of your repairing guides and for the fast delivery!

My Fix

Very fast and easy with your great guides.

My Advice

...

My Problem

I wanted more RAM, and my drive was starting to flake out on me

My Fix

very easy using your guides

My Advice

Always be sure to have all the tools handy and keep track of all the screws

My Problem

The optic drive was dead on a used Macbook pro that I purchased

My Fix

The repair went easy. I followed the guide to the "T".

My Advice

Better eyes or more light would have been helpful with the small screws.

My Problem

My kid dropped his MacBook and broke the hinge. Apple said fixing the hinge was a major repair. He lived with it for a while but when the HD also died I decided to try to fix it myself.

My Fix

Went fine. Fixing the hinge really was a big, time consuming job since it required disassembly of the display. But it went fine. I also replaced the optical drive and the HD.

My Advice

The clear, step-by-step photos on iFixit.com were the main reason I decided to give it a try. And having the correct parts and tools indicated on the site was also a major help. I did have a question about if I had the correct optical drive but Mike responded quickly that it was.

My Problem

the lens was dirty. may only to clean the lens could solve the dead drive. but i already buy a new one.

My Fix

Most screws for replace directly the OpticalDrive where smaller than Ph#00. Even Ph#000 didn't work right.

Especially the bottom right one:

and all mounting holders like:

http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/CcWBD3GWHEgBhHuW.m...

where to small screws.

All the rest was fine! :)

My Advice

Have smaller Screwdriver than Ph#00 and Ph#000 in stock.
