My Problem
My 4 year old son decided to be rough with the MacBook closing the lid one night.
My Fix
One order from you and 2.5 hours later the screen was replaced. Your guides rock.
My Advice
Set aside 2.5 to 3 hours to do this job completely.
My Problem
The backlight on my wife's MacBook Core 2 Duo was burned out - the computer turned on and worked well when plugged in to an external display, but the built-in display did not turn on. Actually, it did - as you could see the image on screen from a certain angle, but the backlight was not working. I had previous ordered the inverter board and cable, thinking that they were the problem, but after replacing them, the issue still remained. It was at that point that I returned those parts and ordered the LCD instead.
My Fix
The repair went pretty well - I had already done quite a bit of work on the inverter board replacement, so the second time around I was able to do things much more quickly. The two biggest hassles for me were dealing with all of the tiny plastic clips getting stuck to the display bezel, and getting the clutch cover back in place properly. The display worked great once everything was put back together. However, I apparently damaged the fan while I was working, as the fan now does not turn on. So that's another repair I'm in for... :-)

My Advice
Use a daily pill organizer to keep track of your screws. They have individual segments that are perfectly sized to keep track of screws, as well as closing/locking lids for each segment.
Make sure you're using the proper sized screwdrivers. The most useful one for me was a minuscule eyeglass-sized screwdriver. It was smaller than the phillips 000 screwdriver and worked wonders with many of the small internal screws, especially the ones holding the top case and display bezel on.
Also, everyone mentions this, but it can't be overemphasized, be really careful with the tiny plastic clips around the display bezel. They break really easily and can come flying off and skitter into a far corner of the room if you're not careful.
My Problem
My macbook screen started flickering a few weeks ago. The day after the flickering it died. A flashlight revealed that images were still on the screen, there was just no light.
I posted my situation and received a few suggestions. It seemed the best way to go was to replace the inverter and inverter cable. I did this and the problem remained the same.
I did some more research and found that others had posted that a screen replacement was a solution to their similar problem.
My Fix
I decided to try to replace the screen.
I ordered the part here and followed the guide from this site. The detailed guide made the replacement easy!
My Advice
I see this advice often, but it is very good advice: find a way to keep your screws organized. I drew a grid on the sticky side of duct tape and numbered it. I placed the screws on the grid and on a separate piece of paper wrote which number went where on the computer and what step it matched in the ifixit guide.
My Problem
Busted Macbook LCD screen.
My Fix
The part was delivered in 3 days about a week before the estimated date. They answered my questions via email within minutes. Following the repair guides was simple and had no issues taking the Macbook apart or putting it back together.
My Advice
Use iFixit for every mac repair
My Problem
The monitor backlight suddenly went dark. first i could easily relight it by turning the brightness full down and then up again, but it went worse day by day. the backlight kept working if i pulled the right upper corner of the monitor towards me and pushed the left one back. well, paperclip + rubber rings did help for some hours, but that wasnt really a solution.
My Fix
as said before by others, most of these problems are due to faulty backlight converters or -cables, but mine wasnt. wasted some money on them plus a set of display bezel clips, well, sort of my own fault oO but i felt them going bad fast also when i treated them the best i could.
another order anyhow brought me the new lcd and that finally fixed the problem. but i had to go through most of the guide one more time as i had first connected the backlight cable inproperly... --> very harassing, got me almost close to a nervous breakdown but luckily it worked in the end.
the new lcd now has a way cooler color spectrum which took me many many rounds and felt hours of calibration until the result was something close to pleasent
a funny by-fact was that the lcd came while i lay in hospital for an orbital enucleation and dermis fat transplantation so i can have a glass eye in the next weeks.
My Advice
1st: be careful with those display bezel clips and read the guide on how to do the remounting before messing around yourself. they're 20$ 12pcs which is definitely not worth the fun!
2nd: dont know how to advise on that one but including inverter+cable, bezel clips, lcd, shipping costs and taxes i paid close to 300€, which are quite a bigger sum in US $ and could easily have had me a full display mount including a brand new and perfectly mounted bezel...
but it seems like everyone with this problem has to go through the same steps since most of those problems might be caused only by the inverter thing.
My Problem
Cracked LCD screen on student mac.
My Fix
I have never worked on computers before! The videos and guides were awesome!!!! Explained everything very well and the pictures helped a great deal. This computer novice got the screen in place and WORKING:) with no problems!
My Advice
Take your time and it can be done!
My Problem
LCD screen slipped under corner of easy chair. I leaned forward to exit chair and heard cracking sound. Not good! My prized Macbook now had a cracked screen. I took it to the Mac Store and the Mac Connection and the estimates were hundreds of dollars and lose the computer for 10 days to 2 weeks. The LCD screen was $149 from iFixit.
My Fix
After watching the video, the repair went very smoothly. The toughest part was re-attaching the screen power plug located behind the hinge. As luck would have it, my wife had bought me a manicure kit for Christmas that contained the perfect tool for inserting the plug. That little ear cleaner made the job a snap. There are only three plugs and about 20 screws, but if you have some mechanical ability and a little bit of patience the job is not bad at all. One must exercise extreme caution when working with the plugs and making sure not to pinch the camera wires when re-aligning the screen in the case.
My Advice
1. Be very careful where you lay your laptop.
2. When considering a self repair on your laptop, watch the videos available so that you know where you are going and what is involved.
3. I found out that neither Apple or the Mac Connection were cooperative in selling me the part. Both insisted in shipping the computer off and having them do the installation at a drastically increased price. Apple quoted $300 and Mac Connection was talking $750. ifixit is truly a bargain! The screen arrived in 2 days via USPS Priority, and I had it installed withing an hour. The computer is working like new again and I am a very happy camper! Thank you ifixit!
My Problem
The backlight on my Macbook A1181 suddenly went dark. For about a month, I could toggle the brightness buttons between dark and the lowest setting to keep the backlight on. Eventually it became more and more difficult to keep the light on and I would have to toggle the brightness buttons every few minutes or more. The light would also go out with any slight movement of the screen. There was no particular angle that caused the problem but if the light was on, any movement would turn it off. It always worked just fine hooked up to an external display and I could use a flashlight held up to the screen and see the computer functioning properly just without the backlight.
My Fix
The repair went well and a new LCD screen fixed the problem. However before trying the screen I also replaced the inverter card and inverter cable which did not fix the problem.
My Advice
I printed the IFix it guide which was very helpful and taped the screws on each relevant page to keep them in order. According to my research, this problem can sometimes be caused by either the inverter card or cable but be aware that I wasted $70 replacing those and eventually had to replace the entire LCD. It was difficult to trouble shoot beyond those 3 parts so I would probably try the same repairs in order again since it was easier and cheaper to begin with the inverter card and cable first.
My Problem
busted screen
My Fix
Good, up to putting the hinge plate back on. now the screen flashes red. But anything is better than paying apple store 800 to do it for me. Thank you for your product and prices! very good quality. The screen flashing red is my own fault, hard to get the flat wire back in there
My Advice
Be careful putting the hinge piece back on and taking off. do not use a flat screwdriver for prying.
