My Problem

My 2006 Mac mini was still running tiger os 10.4.11. Unable to use many newer applications, update web browser, sign up for nest account for my newly installed nest, etc because computer was too slow. Also it would stall out constantly, freeze up and quit unexpectedly. Needed more memory and new OS. Local repair guy recommended I just buy a new computer.

My Fix

Overall went very well. Taking the cover off was still difficult even with the isesamo. Actually ended up bending the isesamo badly in order to pop the case off. But once it was off there was no problem detaching and unscrewing things. RAM came out and installed easily enough. Putting things back together was a little trickier. Reinserting the thermal sensor cable was a little difficult but I finally got it. Three of the four screws that came out went back in easily but I was unable to get the 4th in and get it to "grab" anything. After several attempts I finally gave up. It seems to be fine with the 3 screws. I'm hanging onto the 4th to try again later. Afterwards I installed snow leopard and that also went well. Computer seems to be running much smoother now. No problems have been detected so far.

My Advice

I had been too scared to attempt opening my mac and trying to repair myself fearing I would break it or make it worse. Now I'm glad I saved my money and upgraded myself because it wasn't as difficult as I thought.

My Problem

to little rams to upgrade the computer to OS-X lion

My Fix

Installing a new 2 GB RAM chip i addition to the existing 1 GB RAM chip using the guide went smooth, to the MacBook Pro 15 model 1211

My Advice

read about possibilities for upgrading.

Follow the instruction

My Problem

The Mac Mini needed more RAM.

My Fix

It was touch and go, but I used my old rusty putty knife to get the mini open and install the RAM. Using the repair guides I followed the procedure step by step. When I powered it back on, I was amazed to see 2 GB functional!

My Advice

This procedure is not for the electronically uninitiated. But I felt if the girl in the video can do it, so could I!

My Problem

Dead hard drive on older macbook 2.1. Tired of putting dead computer equipment in storage until next recycling effort. Decided to spend a little money and see if I could repair/upgrade laptop.

My Fix

Perfecto. Installed a new SSD drive I already had (sorry next time buying it at ifixit). Then bought new hard drive cable (macbook didn't recognize new hard drive) and added RAM. Used all the how-to resources on ifixit website. Miraculously, everything worked and the macbook is extremely fast and working perfectly. The ifixit guides were very accurate and helpful.

My Advice

Not sure if this is good advice or not. Before doing install of new hard drive, connect it to macbook as an external drive first to see if the laptop recognizes it. If it doesn't, may need a new cable as I did. BTW, I had removed old hard drive and had my work IT guy confirm that it was dead.

My Problem

The "kernel panic" was coming always when I was trying to reinstall OSX

My Fix

I had the "kernel panic" and it took some time to find out it was a bad RAM that I have to replace.

My Advice

I had to find out the solution.

My Problem

I had an old MacBook that sat unused for years. My son wanted to flex his programming skills in developing apps, and I thought it would make the perfect platform. It used to seize quite a bit in the day, and remember leaning it was the drive. It also came with 512 megs of RAM. Not much.

My Fix

I've never had such a hassle free experience. We literally yanked out the old RAM and drive, popped the new ones in, installed the new O/S, and it all went without a hitch.

My Advice

None. ifixit covered everything soup to nuts. If you have an old Mac, these upgrades are a snap.

My Problem

Need to upgrade

My Fix

Good no problem at all was complete in 15 minutes. Thanks to your staff

My Advice

Follow fix it directions

My Problem

It all started with a swollen battery compounded by coffee in the keyboard. Once she was down it was time to fix er up.

My Fix

took everything apart to dry out. the swollen battery was causing issues any way and a couple more gigs of ram never hurt anyone right? Easy easy.

My Advice

never have any liquid within 5 metres of a laptop, and put as much ram in as you can ram in. If you have a spill flip it upside down asap.

My Problem

We needed to upgrade the mini to Lion, but it didn't have enough RAM.

My Fix

Took longer than I thought it would, but the guide was very good.

My Advice

I was able to use a thin butter knife instead of a putty knife. It worked well.

My Problem

I wanted a 2GHz core 2 duo instead of a 1.5GHz core solo

My Fix

Bad at first try but being patient proved to be efficient

My Advice

Be extremely careful when taking the heatsink out. My 1.5 processor was not locked in properly and it came with the heatsink
