Stories

My Problem

We needed to upgrade the mini to Lion, but it didn't have enough RAM.

My Fix

Took longer than I thought it would, but the guide was very good.

My Advice

I was able to use a thin butter knife instead of a putty knife. It worked well.

My Problem

I wanted a 2GHz core 2 duo instead of a 1.5GHz core solo

My Fix

Bad at first try but being patient proved to be efficient

My Advice

Be extremely careful when taking the heatsink out. My 1.5 processor was not locked in properly and it came with the heatsink

My Problem

I just wanted a challenge

My Fix

Pretty smooth, except it did not work the first time

My Advice

Be extremely carefull when taking the heatsink out. My 1.5 processor was not locked on and stayed glued to the processor. Sorry! Drop images not allowed

My Problem

The older versions of the MacBookPro (A1150) don“t have large Hard Drives, so we had to put in a larger one. At the same time the battery went wrong, so we had to replace it, simultaneous with giving the MacBookPro some more RAM

My Fix

With the guides of ifixit it was as easy as like playing a game!

My Advice

Everything I found, was like described in the repair guides from ifixit!

My Problem

I wanted more RAM, and my drive was starting to flake out on me

My Fix

very easy using your guides

My Advice

Always be sure to have all the tools handy and keep track of all the screws

My Problem

A friend wanted to install a version of OS X newer than Tiger and she needed more RAM to do it.

My Fix

It went perfectly. The RAM upgrade was without incident, it works perfectly, and I blew about one pound of dust out of the machine in the process.

My Advice

Nah. This was a very straightforward process. There's even a diagram for how to do it on the bottom of the iMac.

My Problem

My 2006 Macbook Pro was still running off it's original 1GB of RAM

My Fix

The repair was very simple and quick. My laptop now runs noticeably faster with just 1/2GB more.

My Advice

Don't believe the hype. Macbook Pro A1150 won't run higher than 2GB of RAM (just like iFixit said).

My Problem

Daughter's Macbook Core 2 Duo only had one GB of Ram and Lion requires two.

My Fix

Very straightforward install with the descriptive graphics on the computer.

My Advice

Push the ram in tight

My Problem

Only had 1 GB of RAM on an older MacMini, and needed to bump it to 2 GB.

My Fix

The repair was smooth.

My Advice

Take your time, and match pictures of the guides with what you are doing. Use a magnifying glass if you have one, to scope things out as you are taking things apart. Even take a few notes, I did, as you go along. Be sure to have all tools and parts at hand.

My Problem

In the past several weeks, by Lion release date, I noticed, that my Mac Mini wasn't capable of handling the new software, mainly for RAM issues and also is an insult to live with a 60GB HDD.

My Fix

Very well, do it by my self, with Mac mini mid 2007, no further problems, and everything works at the first start.

My Advice

Check every step of any guide to the end, and be sure to feel comfortable with the procedure you are about to attempt.
