Keyboard only half works--keyboard cable bad?

History

Hi, I have a 2009 Unibody MacBook Pro that has a whole row of keyboard keys that won't work, plus the trackpad doesn't register a click. The laptop hasn't suffered any water damage. Is it possible the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard/trackpad is starting to go bad? I checked the connections and they seem good. Is it possible I could purchase the cables without having to replace the entire upper case? Thanks.

This really sounds like liquid damage to me. Yes you can buy a track pad alone. Try hooking up an external keyboard and mouse to test the logicboard: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Model A1278) Trackpad
