Can I use a mid 2012 13 MBP screen on the late 2011 model?

I’ve seen people using a 2011 screen on the 2012 model but is it possible to do it the other way round?

My 2011 screen died on me and I have a broken 2012 lying around.

As long as they are both Unibody systems! You can’t use a Retina display on a Unibody.

Be aware the 2012 systems use a slightly different LVDS connector!

Most people are placing the 2011 15” hi-res matte or gloss displays onto their 2012 system. Here the LVDS cable tang needs to be ground down a bit, so it can fit. If done correctly there is no issues.

Here you’re doing the reverse! The 2012 display LVDS cable is a bit smaller so make sure you’ve centered the cable in the connector otherwise you risk shorting out!

Frankly, I don’t think its wise as you could damage your logic board and the display! The 2011 & 2012 displays are no different otherwise!

Thanks for the tip! I didn't want to risk damaging the logic board so I actually just re-seated the display and it works for now. Would have to eventually replace the screen but I'll leave that for future me to worry.
