iPod Hi-Fi USB iPhone connector charging and playing
I want to rebuild my iPod Hi-Fi from a FireWire iPod connector to a USB iPhone connector.
Has anyone ever done that or have any tips regarding FW to USB connector?

Finno Furre, the only thing that I can think off are the commercially available adapters or if you look at the pinouts for the iphone dock connector and compare it to the current Firewire connection and the USB connection pinout you might rewire it by replacing those. I suppose it would only work for charging since the data protocol is different. Good Luck to you

Finno Furre I am a little confused with that. Which iPod do you have?
oldturkey03,
turkey, the very first iPods were firewire not USB, Yes it's a very confusing question.
mayer,
Yes the way I remember is that up to the 3rd generation there was no USB support at all only Firewire. With the Ipod 4th gen Apple got into the USB support with their Ipods, I guess I got stumpped on the Ipod HIFi description. So, if this iPod is of the first three generations, there should be no direct way to change it to USB since the firmware of the logic board does not provide any support for USB data transfer. I do know that there are USB to Firewire cable adapters out there but am not sure if that would work for the Ipod and how it would work to sync the iPod under iTunes. http://www.l-com.com/search.aspx?q='1394...|3951|1394%20ad apter|www.wiseg eek.com|C||4362 560331&gclid=CN v2p6r5mKcCFaJl7 AodDiZaeg links to some of the Adapters but again that approach to a conversion would require to test it with the iPod and iTunes as well as other software to see if it would work.
oldturkey03,
I am talking about the boombox iPod Hi-Fi (google it): The connector is FW with no charging (or sound I think) for iPhone 3G or later, so I am thinking about opening the iPod Hi-Fi to change connector to a USB type which will charge an iPhone.
