Can the remote on these headphones be repaired?

History

I just recently purchased Apple's in-ear headphones. Not the ones pictured here, but the ones with the rubber noise canceling buds. I wore them in the rain the other day and now the microphone isnt working and the volume + and - buttons are not working. Oddly enough, the Play-Pause center button works just fine. Being that these are pretty expensive and cannot be returned due to my negligence, I wanted to know if this tiny remote can be opened and cleaned up?

that doesn't sound good (no, thats not a lame joke - lol)

i never had those fancy headphones - can you see any "seam" ?

if there is something to open them - get some isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and a paintbrush (i know you like them much) and clean the contacts & switches.

but since it's an apple product, it would not be that easy to fix, maybe they casted/sealed/glued the thing a few times together.

but there might be another thing - get the "old" ones from ebay - they are cheap (and most likely fakes) - remove the earbuds from the cheap ones and place your in-ear pieces on it.

it would be still a tough job but way cheaper than a pair of (still chinese) headphones for 80 bucks

good luck

Thanks Markus. The remote has a seam, but like you said, it might be sealed so if I try to pry them open the remote might completely break..I'll give it a try. I will keep you posted.

Majesty,

Ahhhhh, I finally get to use the paintbrush and alcohol combo. LOL
