Replacement of hard drive with larger capacity cause issues?

History

Hello! I need to replace the HD in my iBook G4 12" 1.2GHz 30GB HD. I'm looking at buying your IF107-069-1 (320 GB 5400 RPM Western Digital ATA Hard Drive). If I replace my HD with a larger capacity HD will I loose any functionality?

Also, is there a larger or faster RPM HD for sale for this model? The reason I ask is because I once tried to replace the HD in a G3 iMac with a non-approved HD and that iMac would no longer go to sleep.

I haven't had any problems with replacing these hard drives. Anything ifixit sells for your model should work just fine.

I think size is more important than speed. I stuck a 7200rpm drive in my MacBook but haven't really noticed any difference.

Just had 10.4 installed on my iBook with the 320 GB Western Digital hard drive I bought from iFixit.com. The WD works well and the computer goes to sleep as usual. Thanks for your help Colleen!

Stafford,

I agree with Colleen. Especially with a G4, hard drive speed is not going to be the bottleneck, as long as you are at 5400RPM or faster.
