I've been fixing things for a while now.
I started iFixit, the free repair manual. I think technology will make life on Earth dramatically better if we take the care to do it right. To that end, I write regularly on technology issues. iFixit's electronics teardowns, repairability reports, and photography are regularly published by the Times, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, LA Times, and others.
I share my perspective every now and again:
- Oil Leak Could Transform Repairmen Into Superheroes — Wired, 2010
- Why Fixers Will Save Our Planet — The Atlantic, 2011
- I Won't Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here's Why — Harvard Business Review, 2012
- Unfixable Computers Are Leading Humanity Down a Perilous Path — Wired, 2012
- White House Backs the Right to Unlock Your Phone—Will Congress? — The Atlantic, 2013
- — Wired, 2013
I speak frequently on design for disassembly, technical writing, repair, service documentation, and the environmental impact of electronics at forums like MacWorld, DesignCon, and TeKom.
My writing has been published in The Atlantic, Harvard Business Review, Wired, The Wall Street Journal, TreeHugger, and elsewhere.
