Velocity Micro Cruz Troubleshooting Guide

Released October 2016, identified by model number T410.

Data Is Inaccessible ¶

You wish to backup your data or your Cruz is currently not powering on and you wish to recover your media.

Data Needs to Be Backed Up ¶

If your Cruz is currently working, you are able to download apps, and you wish to backup your data to prevent potential data loss, you can download Titanium Backup from Google Play. You must have root access.

Dead Device Contains Media ¶

If your Cruz is inoperable but you wish to extract your files (such as pictures, videos, and music), you may do so with a computer and a USB cable. First, connect your Cruz to the computer by using the USB cable. On your computer, if the AutoPlay dialog box appears, choose the option “Open Folder/Device to View files”. If the AutoPlay dialog box doesn’t appear, you can view files manually: Open the Computer window, and then open the tablet’s icon, found at the bottom of that window. Open the Storage icon to view files.Open the folder that contains the files you want to copy and select the files. If you wish to copy all the folders, select them all. With the files or folders selected hold ctrl + c (Command + c on a MAC) to copy files, open a destination folder that you wish to copy to, and use ctrl+v (Command + v) to paste your files/folders. When it is done, close the folders and disconnect the USB cable.

Speakers Are Not Playing Music Properly ¶

Your Cruz is either not playing audio or the speakers remain on when they are plugged into external speakers.

Mute Is On ¶

Check to ensure that your volume is turned up and the mute is off. If it is, and the speakers are still not working, restart your device. If the speakers still don't appear to be working, you may backup and factory data reset your device. If your speakers continue to malfunction, you may need to replace them [link to speaker repair].

Stereo Plug Is Not Used ¶

If your speakers stay on whenever you plug your Cruz into external speakers, check the male plug type. If it is a male plug with 3 connectors (left, right, and mic), it will not mute the internal speakers. Switch your external speakers to those with a stereo plug.

Faulty Speaker ¶

If you have tried to correct the problem with the above methods and still are not having success, it is possible that you may need to replace your speaker.

Malfunctioning Power ¶

Your Cruz does not power on.

Faulty Charger ¶

If your Cruz does not show any signs of power or turning on, check to make sure your device is charged. Try using a different electrical outlet as well as making sure the device is fully connected to the charger. If the device is still not receiving charge your charger may be faulty and should be replaced.

Faulty Battery ¶

If the device is still not holding a charge after replacing the charger, replace the battery.

LCD Malfunctions ¶

While using your tablet, the display screen locks on both the lock screen and/or the specific screen you are using.

Frozen Screen ¶

If your locked screen is not accepting touch, try shutting off the device by pressing the power button. If the screen pops up asking you to “shut down..?” continue to press the power button to power off. If the screen does not allow you to power off allow time for the device battery to drain and restart the device. If the problem reoccurs begin shutting down tablet after use. If the problem persists there may be a problem with your SD card.

Software Speed Is Compromised ¶

Your Cruz is running slowly or your software seems buggy.

Buggy Software ¶

If your device is extremely buggy and is not operating effectively you can factory reset it to a clean slate. Please note that you should backup your files (see “My Device is Dead but Has All My Pictures”). From the Home screen > Menu > System > Privacy > Factory data reset > Reset Device > Erase everything.

The device will shut down and perform the software reset to factory settings, including erasing the internal flash storage. Upon restart, the device will require you to again go through the Cruz Setup Wizard to configure your Wi-Fi and Email, just as you did just after purchase.

Unnecessary Cookies and Cache ¶

If your Cruz is running slowly, there are many things that you can do to speed it up. First, remove applications that you don’t need: if you have several, uninstall them. This frees up memory. Secondarily, you can clear your cookies and cache. Open the internet browser and tap the menu button in the upper-right corner of the screen. Tap Settings and next tap Privacy & Security. On this page select Clear Cache and Clear History. This will delete many temporary files that occupy memory.

Front Camera Isn't Capturing Video/Images ¶

Your front-facing camera is not working properly.

Faulty Camera ¶

If your camera doesn't appear to be working, clean off the tablet surface (near the camera) to make sure that there is nothing obstructing the view. If this doesn't work, you may have buggy software and you can backup your files and factory reset the device. If after reseting the tablet you are still having issues, you may need to replace the internal camera.
