Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Troubleshooting

How to fix common user experienced issues with the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Cellular Phone.

Phone does not hold charge for a long period of time.

If the battery power on the phone drains quickly, you may have too many applications open in the background. Press the square shaped button in the bottom right corner of the screen and close all active applications by pressing the orange button with three white lines that appears.

Background Lighting on the phone can drain the battery quickly. Swipe down on the toolbar at the top of the screen and decrease brightness by sliding the orange bar to the left.

The phone will default to high efficiency mode which drains the battery quickly. Enter the phone settings menu and select "Power Management". There are three different power saving modes to choose from: Stamina Mode, Ultra Stamina Mode, and Low Battery Mode. Choose whichever mode to fit your battery consumption needs.

The phone could either lose charging potential over time or initially be manufactured with a faulty battery. Both of these are solved by replacing the battery. See Battery Replacement Guide

The back panel of the phone is cracked.

The back of the phone will become worn with continued use. Dropping the phone may crack or scratch the back. Replace the phone back. See Back Cover Replacement Guide

Phone does not respond to touch and the power button does nothing.

The battery in your phone may be low. If a red light appears when charging the phone that means it doesn’t have sufficient power. Plug a charger into your phone and let it charge for at least 30 minutes.

There may have been an error that is preventing the phone from powering on normally. Try restarting the phone by holding down the power button until there is a vibration. If that doesn’t work then try holding down the power and volume up button at the same time until there is a vibration.

There may be a problem with the charger instead of the phone itself. If a green, red, or orange light doesn’t appear when you charge your phone that means the phone isn’t receiving charge. Try using the charger to charge other applicable phones. If the charger doesn’t charge any of your phones then it is probably faulty. Purchase a new charger.

The phone may not have the ability to turn on due to a faulty component. If the phone shows a green or orange light while charging, that means it is charging correctly. At sufficient charge, the phone should turn on when the power button is pressed. If the power button doesn’t respond then it may be faulty. Replace the power button.

The headphones no longer play any sound.

Try plugging the headphones into another device and see if audio is displayed. If not, the headphones are likely broken. Consider finding a headphone repair guide specific to your model of headphones.

Dirt buildup may occur in the headphone jack. To clean dirt out safely there are two ways, using a can of air or a cotton swab. Take a can of compressed air and place the tip next to the jack, press lightly to clean out dust particles in the headphone jack. If this doesn’t work, take a cotton swab and gently insert into headphone jack to clean out lint.

If the phone is not registering headphones a data reset of the phone is needed. Go to Settings > Apps > Smart Connect > Press Clear Data and restart the phone.

The phone doesn’t make any sound.

The volume is muted.Turn up the volume by using the volume buttons on the side of the phone below the power button or enter the audio settings and turn the media volume up with the slide bar.

The phone is registering headphones. Plug headphones in and gently pull them out.

If the above steps have not helped to resolve the issue of your external speakers not working, the external speakers may need to be replaced. See External Speaker Replacement Guide

Not able to take photos with rear facing camera.

The battery in your phone may be low. If a red light appears when charging the phone that means it does not have sufficient power. Plug a charger into your phone and let it charge for at least 30 minutes. The phone will not allow the camera to work if it is low on charge as a power saving measure. Try taking a photo after you have charged the phone.

When you open the camera, it initially displays a black screen like it is loading but will stay black. This can be a glitch in the hardware when opening the camera. This problem might be resolved by either restarting the phone and then opening the camera again or by pressing the button to switch between front and rear facing camera.

If you are having troubles pressing the on-screen button to take photos, your touch screen may be experiencing issues. To see if the camera can still take photos, try using the camera action button on the right edge of the phone near the bottom. If it can still take photos, the touch screen needs to be replaced. You can’t hear the other person during a phone call.

You may simply have the volume muted. Turn up the phone call volume by using the volume button on the side of the phone.

There may have been an error that is preventing the phone audio from working. Try restarting the phone by holding down the power button until there is a vibration. If that doesn’t work then try holding down the power and volume up button at the same time until there is a vibration.

If you can't hear the person calling, you may have too many applications open in the background. Press the square shaped button in the bottom right corner of the screen and close all active applications by pressing the orange button with three white lines that appears.

The ear receiver has stopped working and it needs to be replaced. See Earpiece Speaker Replacement Guide
