Samsung SPH-A760 Troubleshooting

The Samsung SPH-A760 was the first generation of push to talk for Sprint. Unfortunately, it wasn't heavily advertised and therefore wasn't used by a large audience. This lead to problems with newer versions because the older versions were not tested thoroughly in the field.

Screen Isn't Working ¶

If the Samsung SPH-A760 main screen is not working, it is either due to physical damage or a bad circuit connection.

Physical Damage ¶

The Samsung SPH-A760 is a flip-phone, while this configuration normally protects the screen from damage when not in use, there is a chance that large amounts of pressure will cause damage to the screen. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Screen

Bad Connection ¶

Similar to physical damage to the exterior of the phone, the interior circuit connections that connect the screen to the logic board may be damaged as well. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Screen

No Sound ¶

Speakers are faulty ¶

If you suspect that your speakers are not working then it is advised to replace them. A simple replacement of speakers will consume less time and get your phone back to function normally. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Big Speakers

Speakers aren't connected properly ¶

This can easily be fixed by reconnecting the wires properly. If that fails, then you can safely assume that one of the wire is internally malfunctioning and creating an open circuit. Use a different set of wires, solder it to the speakers and to the screen, and then see if the phone works. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Big Speakers

Microphone ¶

Bad Connection ¶

If the connection is faulty then the first thing to do is to re-establish it. Connection problems can usually be solved by replacing or fixing the cables. This process will take from 5 to 30 minutes depending on which wires are not working. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Logic Board

Faulty microphone ¶

If you suspect that your microphone is not working then it advised to replace the microphone or replace the logic board all together as the microphone is soldered on the logic board. Fixing the microphone is an option, but the components are so small, it would require great concentration and patience. Replacing the entire logic board can be as easy as 1,2,3 and consume less time. Push Button and no Response ¶

Button is missing ¶

One possibility for no response from the keypad is that some of the buttons from the keypad could be missing. By finding spare parts, you can easily replace the buttons on the keypad to fix this problem. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Keyboard

No Connection ¶

The connection from the keypad to the logic board could have come loose and caused no response in the keypad. By taking the phone apart, you can find out if the keypad needs to be reconnected. If the problem still persists, the wires connecting the keypad could be faulty; buying the appropriate cable could easily fix this problem. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Logic Board

Physical Damage ¶

Physical Damage to the keypad could also cause no response in the keypad. The physical damage to the keypad could be so severe that the keypad is malfunctioning and is broken beyond repair. The underside of the keypad could have also been worn out and is not making contact with the logic board. Replacing the entire keypad would be necessary to fix this problem. Problems with Calling/No Reception ¶

Reception problems are the inability to make or receive phone calls and other data.

Antenna is faulty or broken ¶

Reception failure may be the cause of damage to the wireless antenna. A simple inspection of the exterior of the phone may be done to determine if the problem may lie within the circuits of the phone. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Antenna

Bad Connection to Antenna ¶

If there is no physical damage to the exterior of the antenna and it is determined that the phone is in a strong signal area, but there the problems with calling and no reception persists, there may be damage to the antenna's connection to the logic board. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Antenna

Bad Reception Area/Bad Recipient Reception ¶

Reception problems may also be the result of poor coverage in your area. Normally the phone will display the signal strength of the connection to service towers. Make sure you avoid dead zones to ensure proper signal. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Antenna

Charging/Power ¶

Phone doesn't turn on ¶

This may be the cause of an uncharged battery. If the phone runs while connected to the charger then the battery may either be poorly connected or uncharged. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Battery

Battery doesn't hold a charge ¶

This happens when the battery is used beyond its optimal operating period. Over time the maximum charge capacity diminishes with use. To avoid this problem, try to ensure that the battery is always fully depleted before you charge it again. The only way to fix this problem is to replace the battery. Faulty or broken charging cable ¶

There are a few ways to fix a broken charging cable. The first is to determine if the problem is due to internal wires being disconnected. If this is the problem simply strip the cable to the point where the copper wires are disconnected and solder it together. Then place a heat shrink on that section. If the damage is on the transformer part of the charging cable then the best way to solve this problem is to replace the charging cable with a new one.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS ¶

Logic Board ¶

If You have tried all other possibilities on this site, then the logic board is the best guess for the cause of the problem. This means you must replace it or buy a new phone. It isn't possible or advised to try and fix this piece of equipment yourself as the logic board is a complicated piece of equipment that requires knowledge of the internal circuitry and digital design of the hardware. It's not worth the time. Disassembling Samsung SPH-A760 Logic Board
