Repairability Scoring Rubric v1.3
Here you'll find a summary of the various criteria considered when calculating iFixit repairability scores under scorecard version 1.3.
Scoring Factors
Weight | Note | |
---|---|---|
Design for Repair | 90% | Ease of disassembly/reassembly |
Service Manual (if any) | 10% | Free, public, available via OEM support site |
Factors Not Considered
Parts Availability | Replacement parts available for purchase from the OEM at reasonable cost to end users will be a requirement in a future scorecard update. |
Parts Pairing | Where common repairs are inhibited by parts pairing or calibration issues (e.g. full or partial loss of function, authenticity warnings, etc.) for which the OEM provides no freely available software-based remedy, penalties may be included in a future version of the scoring model. |
Unique Product Identifier | In a future scorecard update, maximum points may be reserved for devices which can be readily identified (model number, service tag, etc.) in a non-working condition, making it straightforward to find compatible parts and instructions. |
Software Updates | Duration of software updates may be included in a future version of the scorecard. |
Revisions from v1.2
Laptop Priority Part Modularity | Refined scoring model for laptops, where disassembly/reassembly proxy times specific to I/O ports repair procedures are replaced with a simple modularity score. |
