Causes
The device may appear to have a non-working keyboard due to a system freeze or glitch. Disconnect the keyboard. Press and hold the power button for 10–15 seconds to force a restart. Reconnect the keyboard after rebooting and test functionality. Functionality testing includes typing and using other controls on the keyboard.
The detachable keyboard relies on physical connector pins to communicate with the tablet. Detach the keyboard and inspect the connector on both the keyboard and tablet. Look for dirt, debris, or damage like bent pins or missing pins. Reconnect the keyboard firmly, ensuring it clicks into place securely. If the keyboard intermittently connects or disconnects when moved, the connector may be worn or damaged.
Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause the keyboard to stop working. With the keyboard connected and utilizing the touchscreen, click and hold onto the taskbar. Then, click "Taskbar settings" in the pop-up. Navigate to "System" on the left-hand side, then "About" at the bottom. Scroll down and click on "Device Manager". Look for the keyboard tab in the device manager click and hold the "HID Keyboard Device" option, then click "Update Drivers" then "Search Automatically for Updates".
