Gigabyte P34G Troubleshooting

Gigabyte P34G laptop, released in 2013. This troubleshooting guide will help you identify the cause of problems you may be having with your laptop.

Computer Will Not Power On ¶ 

Laptop will not power on at all.

Battery Is Not Charged ¶ 

Your computer could not be turning on because the battery is dead. Plug in the computer's power adapter, and plug the other end into an outlet to charge the battery. After this has been done, either retry starting up the computer or check that the computer's "charging" light is turned on.

Faulty Power Adapter ¶ 

Confirm the power adapter is firmly connected at all points. If the light on the power adapter is not on, the power adapter may be faulty. If this is the case, purchase a new power adapter.

Faulty Battery ¶ 

If the power adapter is not faulty, and the laptop will only turn on when connected to the adapter, the battery may be faulty. Replace the battery using this guide. Battery Replacement Guide

Computer Will Not Boot ¶ 

Computer turns on, but displays an error message instead of loading the operating system.

RAM Issue ¶ 

If you hear an audible beep when attempting to boot up your computer, the RAM may be incompatible, damaged, or installed incorrectly. There may also be a RAM issue if the computer crashes while booting or while performing high-memory tasks. In this case, follow this guide to replace the RAM using the RAM Replacement Guide.

Hard Drive Error ¶ 

Computers need to read from the hard drive to boot up. If upon turning on your computer, it displays the BIOS instead of the normal operating system, there may be an error reading from the hard drive. Try inserting and booting to the operating system recovery USB drive that came with your computer. (If you have an operating system recovery CD, you may have to copy its contents to a USB drive using another computer). Once you have booted the recovery USB drive, select "Repair my computer" and follow the instructions. If this does not fix the issue, you may need to replace your hard drive using this Hard Drive Replacement Guide.

Solid State Drive Error ¶ 

Some computers run the operating system from a solid state drive rather than a hard drive. If your hard drive is in working order, but the computer still won't boot correctly, your solid state drive may need to be replaced using the Solid State Drive Replacement Guide. You may also need to replace the solid state drive if you were previously using it for storage, and it stopped working (if the computer no longer recognizes that it is connected).

Video Issues ¶ 

The picture appears distorted or out of proportion, or certain videos distort or display incorrect colors.

Wrong Resolution ¶ 

If the entire picture on the screen appears too large or blurry, you may be using the wrong screen resolution. Right click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution." Select the appropriate resolution for your screen (ideally 1920 X 1080).

Video Distortion / Incorrect Color ¶ 

Video drivers may be out of date. Install the newest version of your VGA driver from this site.

Backlight Is Off Or Does Not Work ¶ 

If you can only see very faint images on your screen, your backlight may not be turned on or could be broken and in need of replacement. Check to see if the backlight is turned on by going to Power Options in the Control Panel. Also try pressing Fn+F6 on your keyboard to increase the backlight brightness. (Keyboard hotkeys)

Damaged Screen ¶ 

If screen issues still persist, or if no picture appears at all, there may be an issue with the screen itself. You may need to replace the screen.

Speakers Are Unresponsive ¶ 

There are issues with your laptop producing sound.

No Sound ¶ 

Confirm that your volume is not set to zero by clicking the volume icon at the bottom right of the taskbar, or by pressing Fn+F9 on your keyboard (Keyboard hotkeys). If there is no sound coming from the speakers first try connecting headphones and seeing if they output sound. If they do, your built-in speakers may have been damaged and need to be replaced. If headphones do not output any audio, check to make sure that you have the most up to date sound drivers for your laptop. Once drivers are updated, right-click the volume icon at the bottom right of the screen and select "Playback devices." Confirm that the correct playback device (your speakers) is selected. If your laptop consistently cannot produce sound using multiple devices after you have updated drivers, it is possible that your sound card is physically broken and needs to be replaced.

Sound Is Garbled/Distorted ¶ 

If your laptop has a history of water damage it could potentially distort the sound coming out of your speakers, in this case it is likely that you will have to replace your speakers using the Speaker Replacement Guide.

WiFi Does Not Connect ¶ 

No connection to the internet via WiFi can be obtained.

Cannot Connect to Internet (Connections Are Found) ¶ 

If you are able to attempt to connect to the internet via certain WiFi points, but no connection can be obtained, right-click on the internet icon in the taskbar (the lower right side of the screen), and click "Troubleshoot Problems." If this does not solve the issue, consider following your internet provider's instructions for connecting to the network.

No Connections Are Found ¶ 

If no WiFi points are recognized at all, first click on the internet icon in the taskbar, and ensure that airplane mode is off, and WiFi is enabled. If no possible connections are found, ensure that your wireless access point device (your router or modem with built-in router) is turned on and firmly connected at all points. If no possible connections are found after this, try pressing Fn+F2 on your keyboard to toggle wireless LAN capability on/off (Keyboard hotkeys). If still no connections are found, you may need to replace your wireless card by following this Wireless Card Replacement Guide.

Touchpad Is Unresponsive ¶ 

The touchpad does not work or respond to my touch properly.

Buildup Of Dirt Or Contaminant ¶ 

If the laptop is dirty on or around the touchpad, an accumulation of dirt could be causing the touchpad to not work properly. Clean the touchpad with a screen cleaner. Reboot the system to see if the problem has been resolved.

Touchpad Disabled ¶ 

The touchpad may have been inadvertently disabled. Try re-enabling it by pressing Fn+F10 on your keyboard. (Keyboard hotkeys)

Keyboard Does Not Work ¶ 

The keyboard does not respond or does not work properly.

Water Damage ¶ 

If the keyboard works partially or only certain keys work properly, the problem could be caused by water damage or excessive moisture. Allow a few days for the laptop to dry thoroughly without use and reboot it. If the problem still persists, you may need to replace your keyboard.

After not using the Gigabyte laptop for two weeks as being away on holiday no problems prior to this, then back home re-plug back into mains adapter press power button on laptop nothing checked power output from adapter 19.92 v tried various ways as mentioned on the net still nothing any ideas please from any one L. Keyboard does not work

Water damage? Really? I think I'd remember spilling water into my $4000 laptop keyboard.

I've plugged a USB keyboard in and it works just fine. The onboard one seems to intermittently cut out for no reason, refusing to acknowledge keystrokes for a few seconds. Really irritating for tech that comes at a premium price tag, especially considering the calibur of the "help" available online.

Nothing happened to it - didn't drop my laptop, hasn't overheated - nothing. The keyboard has just decided to be temperamental all of a sudden.

This isn't the first issue, either - the wifi will often refuse to work unless I restart the machine after booting it up, and the speakers won't work *AT ALL* unless I press the volume down and mute macro keys at the same time (a trick which I had to work out without the assistance of tech support).

And that's ignoring the fact that the thing basically bricked itself after a few months for no reason, requiring me to format it and reinstall everything.
